The Kanji which united the "首" which shows the sound of the meaning along which it passes straight with the "shinnyou(left side of 道)" showing the meaning which walks along a way and goes.

One the "way" along which it passes straightly is expressed.
It came to be used also for meanings, such as "reason", a "rule", "method", etc. which people have to protect from there.
Also in life, a 「道」 is an important thing.
Many ways which are not visible also exist, and we always choose one of them and are progressing.
And in the selected way, the "道" used as its belief is made, and it goes.
